Above Ground Level : An Avalon Romance
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (October, 2000)
Author: Theresa Goldstrand
Average review score:

Above Average
Ms. Goldstrand tells an engaging story about the inner workings of FAA located in the Rocky Mountain region. It is very true to life and takes us to the Hill country of Texas, Kaui and the front range of Colorado. A Coloradan myself, I found her descriptions realistic and accurate. A frequent traveler, I was amazed at what goes on "behind the scenes" in an FAA facility. She is a great story teller with engaging dialogue and believable characters. Above Ground Level is a must read for the romance follower. I loved the main characters.

Adventuring With Children: An Inspirational Guide to World Travel and the Outdoors (Avalon House Travel Series)
Published in Paperback by Avalon House Pub (01 October, 1995)
Author: Nan Jeffrey
Average review score:

World class book for world class adventures...with children
There are many travel books on the market, and there are many travel books for those who have children. This books stands out because the author actually took her kids on wonderful, real "adventures," not just tame camping trips in the U.S. She and her husband traveled to remote places (Morocco, Spain, Bali, Nepal, New Zealand...), kids in tow, and share the experience with us through text and photos. They sailed, biked, hiked, and drove about, and lived for several weeks in different countries.

While most books of this sort will list things to bring along, the author gives us real explanations for each of the things she brings--and she doesn't bring much--and tells us how to make do with less. Invaluable are her personal stories of medical needs, literary needs (her boys brought a few books and exchanged books with other travelers), laundry and social needs. There is even a terrific discussion of diapering while traveling!

Perhaps my favorite section, as a homeschooling mom, is her chapter on education while on the road. The author truly sees the educational value of travel. No doubt her boys were very well educated by their many adventures. They learned foreign languages and the differences between many cultures. Thinking of adventuring?Buy it, and you'll want to try it!

Alaskan Magic - An Avalon Romance
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 October, 1998)
Author: Theresa Goldstrand
Average review score:

Get a feel for Alaska
Ms. Goldstrand knows how to bring the reader into the story and what a story! Steve Buckner is the tall, dark and handsome Alaskan you'd really want to meet. Lauren pulls us into her life in rugged Alaska and has a wonderful comaraderie with her brother, Mark. If you want to see Alaska without really going there, this is the way to go. Alaskan Magic was truly magical.

From RENDEVOUS

Ardith Atkins craves something different, something exotic. She finds both when she takes a job teaching in Saudi Arabia. What she doesn't bargain for is two interesting men in her life--handsome prince Hassan and a charming American self-appointed protector, Jeff Wells. ARDITH has the irresitible appeal of a well-wrought foreign locale. The unique, vivid contrasts of Saudi Arabia seen through the eyes of impressionable Ardith make the country as memorable as any character. This thoroughly modern, believable tale of romance in the Middle East represents a fine first novel by Phyllis Morris. Solid characterizations hold up well against the unusual backdrop. For an exotic romance, travel across the sea with Ardith and experince love in the fascinating Middle East.

From GOTHIC JOURNAL

A talented writer, Morris does a grand job of sweeping the reader into an exotic and unfamiliar environment

VERY GOOD MYSTERY
This book was so good, I wouldn't want to describe it because I don't want to ruin it for someone who hasn't read it yet. Ms. Sharpe used her clever writing skills in writing this book. This book is very entertaining and good - not one boring page. I have no hesitations in giving it a 10. I am a huge and grateful fan of Ms. Sharpe's mystery novels; I have read all of them and I am eagerly waiting for her next one.

A MUST READ
Like Bernadette's other novels, this novel has the whole package. The heroin who happens to be a school teacher in the small town that is just looking for a way to buy her old house. But she is too late, and instead the old Victorian house is bought by the mysterious man that never comes outside, and has a monstrously dog lurking at the gate. It is by chance that our heroin meets the dashing hero. Sparks fly, and instead of kindling the flame, the heroine seeks to put it out. Throughout the novel, it is a chase that throughly satisfies the reader.

Bones (Avalon Mystery)
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 April, 1997)
Author: John Paxson
Average review score:

A real cliff hanger -- This is what mystery novels should be
"Bones" is a novel that no lover of good mysteries wants to miss. Before we know whether or not the author can construct a grammatical sentence we are a captive to suspense. Wow! Who done it? I must add that some deep insights into the lives of tenured professors and their aspiring graduate students is a real bonus. Lovers of mysteries should say a little prayer that we hear more from this talented first time author. Wonderful read!
